In this half-day interactive course run by our experts, you will be given an introduction to the concept of data ethics, and how to help your organisation use the ODI Data Ethics Canvas to help make better and more ethical decisions about data. You will leave the workshop ready to run your first workshop in your own organisation.
This course is introductory and jargon-free. It is intended for anyone working in public, private and third-sector organisations who want to become familiar with data ethics and start to bring it into their organisation.
The course will be attended by people from multiple organisations. We recognise that people may not to want to discuss some of their current ethical issues in front of other organisations, therefore this workshop uses real-world examples to bring the topic to life.
Data ethics is a rapidly emerging area. Increasingly, those collecting, sharing and working with data are exploring the ethics of their practices and, in some cases, being forced to confront those ethics in the face of public criticism. A failure to handle data ethically can harmfully impact people and lead to a loss of trust in projects, products or organisations.
The Open Data Institute has published a Data Ethics Canvas along with a set of tools to help you use it in your organisation. It is designed to help identify potential ethical issues associated with a data project or activity. It encourages teams to make more ethical decisions.
